With Bristol a true festival city, it’s fitting that last summer’s revellers have raised £13K to help us on our mission to clean up energy.
This investment comes from Energy Revolution, an innovative charity which offers festival goers the opportunity to offset their fossil fuel travel miles when they buy tickets to a choice of 20 participating festivals, including Boomtown, Shambala and Bestival. The organisation then invests donations into clean solutions, such as wind or solar energy, and this time we’re pleased to announce that we received £13,000 from the offsetting of over a million travel miles.
Watch the video below to find out more about how this initiative works.
We’re using the money to develop Greater Bristol’s local green energy supply and making the benefits available to all by funding solar panels on community roofs across Bristol and two solar farms – one in Somerset and the other in Lawrence Weston. Together these projects generate 9,105 MWh (Megawatt Hours) each year, which is enough to power 2,220 average homes.
Many of the charity’s partners and audiences are from right here in Bristol, so the donations are going full circle turning the negative costs of transport into a positive for the good of the whole community whilst keeping the party going.
We would like to thank Energy Revolution and all those who offset their travel miles. If you’re going to a festival this year, do check out the carbon calculator and together let’s clean up energy.
