Our community of investors is growing rapidly. People from all walks of life are choosing to think about the impact of their investments and how they can do good with their money – both in terms of making a good financial return and helping the local community and the environment.
Today we get to know first-time investor, Eleanor, who chose to invest in our bond offer so she could save money for her children’s future…

Eleanor Williamson is Marketing Manager at Ecojam, a website for all things green and ethical in Bristol. She used to live in Bristol, where she first heard about BEC whilst managing the Ecojam site, and now has moved with her young family to Aldbourne, Wiltshire. Over to you, Eleanor…
Why did you want to invest in the BEC bond offer?
My husband and I are keen to try to save some money so that our children can use it when they are older. But we really didn’t want it in a savings account where the bank is free to invest in all sorts of things that we would not be comfortable with. Investing with BEC feels like a way that we can save money for our children’s future whilst also helping to build a future that we would like them to live in.
What factors did you consider before investing?
We looked at other projects that BEC has been involved in, the credibility of Ethex and how useful we felt the BEC projects were going to be with regards to building a more positive future.
Would you suggest to others that they check out how to make ethical investments?
Absolutely. More and more of us are now realising that we need to change our behaviours to avoid the catastrophic effects of climate change. Choosing where to put your money is a fundamental part of this which is often overlooked.
Thinking about investing?
