We launched our eighth share offer on 23rd December 2021, aiming to raise £1million in 3 months.
Now we’re doubling that target!
By the end of June 2022 we are hoping to reach a massive £2million. This funding will help us deliver on an ever-increasing pipeline of projects, with some major ones about to launch.
Here are 4 key reasons why we’re extending:
We are on the brink of confirming some major new projects. Many months of work are finally coming to a head, and we hope to talk more about this in the next few weeks.
More generally, we are seeing an increased demand for community energy projects. Bristol community buildings and businesses are getting in touch with us at a record rate. With energy bills on the rise and looming net zero targets, more and more organisations are considering their environmental footprint and taking action. Our offer to install solar panels on buildings makes clean, affordable energy accessible. We want to continue delivering more of these projects, bringing a benefit to Bristol buildings and the wider community.
A lot has changed since we launched share offer 8. When Russia invaded Ukraine earlier this year, energy became an issue of national security. The UK does not want to be funding this atrocious war with fossil fuel money. Equally, we want to help protect our citizens from volatile energy prices. On both counts, renewables are the answer. As a community energy organisation, we recognise the need to increase what we’re doing at speed.
The climate won’t wait
The launch of the latest IPCC report in February has been another wake up call to act now. Their warnings of the “rapidly closing window to secure a liveable future” couldn’t be starker. Decarbonising the grid is a priority. Community energy has a crucial role to play in tackling the climate crisis in a way that benefits the local area.
Public support for community energy
We’re amazed at how many people have interacted with our campaign so far. Over one million people have seen or heard about the share offer, thousands have engaged with us on social media about it, and 350 people signed up to our webinars.
We want to provide an opportunity for everyone to get involved and join our coop, so extended will give more time for all those who have been interested.
Not everyone has the funds to invest. But if you do, it can be an incredible empowering decision. Put your money to work on tackling climate change, and you become a financial activist!
