Megawatt Fund powers more community projects in 2025

After hours of painstaking discussion, the panel for our Megawatt Community Energy Fund has decided who will receive grants this year. Fifteen out of 36 applications were successful and will receive a portion of this year’s grant money of nearly £44k. These projects promise to deliver a wide range of work for the Bristol area and surrounding areas. These include supporting a water sport organisation which works with disabled people to replace their petrol engine with an electric one, funding a Community Climate Action Manager to work with youth-led climate action in schools, and workshops tackling the huge carbon footprint of the fast-fashion industry. The fund, which we share with fellow community energy group Low Carbon Gordano, offers grants of up to £4k to support projects which raise awareness of the climate crisis, its solutions and how to reduce its impact. It also supports work to reduce fossil fuel consumption, like local food growing projects and encouraging alternative modes of transport like cycling to reduce the use of cars. The panel was made up of two representatives from BEC, two from Low Carbon Gordano and one from Quartet, who administers the fund.

We’re really excited to see how these projects get on and will bring you news of their work later in the year.
